Aggregate with a particle size below 4.75 mm is called fine aggregate, commonly known as sand. The sand is divided into two types: natural sand and artificial sand. The building sand is a rock particle with a particle size less than 4.75 mm, which is formed by natural weathering, flow and separation and accumulation, but does not include the particles of soft rock and weathered rock. Construction sand includes river sand, Lake sand, mountain sand and desalinated sea sand. Building sand is the general name of the machine-made sand and mixed sand treated by soil removal.
Requirements for quality of fine aggregate (artificial sand and natural sand) in specification for hydraulic concrete construction 2001:
1, the fine aggregate should be hard, clean and good gradation; the fineness modulus of artificial sand and within the range of 2.4 ~ 2.8, the fineness modulus of natural sand should be within the range of 2.2 ~ 3. The use of mountain sand and coarse sand should be tested accordingly.
2. In the process of mining, fine aggregate should be tested regularly or according to the quantity of a certain amount of mining. In a period of potential harm, corresponding measures should be taken and proved by special tests.
3. The moisture content of fine aggregate should be kept stable. The moisture content of saturated sand surface of artificial sand should not exceed 6%. Accelerated dewatering measures should be taken when necessary.
